Andhra Pradesh Police on Wednesday destroyed 2.43 lakh liquor bottles illegally transported from Telangana by a bulldozer. According to the police, the bottles contained liquor worth Rs 5.47 crore. These illegal bottles were confiscated during investigation by the officials in NTR district of Andhra Pradesh.
Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanthi Rana Tata said the liquor bottles were brought illegally from Telangana. On the orders of the state government, Andhra Pradesh Police is conducting surprise raids at check posts on the outskirts of the city. The move was taken after reports of illegal liquor transport from other states to Andhra Pradesh.
Earlier this year, the Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) seized 66,000 bottles of liquor worth around Rs two crore from Kurnool.
Screws being tightened on liquor smuggling in Andhra Pradesh:
Last June, the Andhra Pradesh Police destroyed 33,934 illicit liquor bottles worth Rs 80 lakh in Eluru district. Eluru Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Dev had said that in Andhra Pradesh, we have cracked down on illegal liquor coming from outside the state. We have been taking action for the last two years.
