Russia, which has been fighting a war with Ukraine for more than six months, is facing a shortage of troops there. The US claims that Russian President Vladimir Putin has planned to recruit more than 130,000 soldiers into the army, but it will not succeed.
The American website has released this news report quoting a defense official. It said that last week Putin issued an order to increase Russia’s military capacity from 1.9 million soldiers to 20.40 million. Recruitment for this will start next year.
According to a US official, Russia has historically failed to meet its military personnel recruitment target. Before Russia’s military action in Ukraine, i.e. before 24 February, Russia was facing a shortage of 150,000 soldiers from its target of one million soldiers. Now it is trying to increase the strength of its personnel by eliminating the upper age limit for recruiting new recruits and prisoners.

The US official also claimed that many of the recruits in the Russian army are old, physically disabled and without proper training. Therefore, the US government believes that efforts to increase Russia’s troops will not be successful.
