0 Bhutan: Former Bhutan PM made this special appeal to India and China, supported India’s permanent membership in the UN

Former Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay said that India and China should not interfere in the internal affairs of neighboring countries. He made this statement while speaking at an event organized by the think tank Center for Policy Research.

He said that as long as both the countries keep interfering in their internal affairs, the countries situated between India and China will not be able to focus on their development. He was replying to a question by former Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran here. During this he also supported India’s permanent membership in the UN.

India’s development journey is not going to stop:

In a lecture organized by the think tank Center for Policy Research, former Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay said that China is developing. China is already growing, they will continue to grow. India is also growing and because India is currently the fastest growing populated country in the world as well as has the largest youth population. In such a situation, the development journey of India is also not going to stop.

He said that in such a situation, the question is for the neighboring countries of these two countries, the countries which are sandwiches, are we going to grow or not. Appreciating India here, Tobgay said that India has always shown commitment to its neighbours, but they have not been able to take advantage of this opportunity for the purpose of meaningful regional cooperation.

Statement given about India’s permanent membership in the UN:

He supported India’s permanent membership in the UN, saying that the world would get a lot from India. The Bhutanese leader referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to leaders of SAARC countries in 2014. He said that no country outside SAARC has given such an honor to the members.
