Reece Topley took three wickets for England and was adjudged the player of the match. At the same time, Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the player of the series.
England team after victory:
Suryakumar was dismissed when India needed 25 runs off eight balls. Indian team needed 21 runs in the last over, but the team could score only three runs. When Suryakumar was returning to the pavilion, the spectators present in the stadium stood up and started clapping. Despite this defeat, the Indian team won the T20 series 2-1. Now the ODI series will be played between India and England from July 12.
Suryakumar after scoring a century:
This is the first defeat in the last 20 matches under Rohit’s captaincy in all three formats. India had earlier lost the match in November 2019 under the captaincy of Rohit. Rohit was the caretaker captain then. At the same time, after becoming the regular captain, Rohit has lost the first match by mixing all three formats.
Rohit became the regular captain from New Zealand’s tour of India in November. Since then, under the captaincy of Rohit, Team India has played 17 matches and won 16. Only Team India has lost in this match. India won the first T20 against England by 50 runs and the second T20 by 49 runs.
Electing to bat after winning the toss, England made a slow start. Jason Roy and Jos Buttler put on a 31-run partnership for the first wicket. It was a matter of relief for both of them that Bhuvneshwar Kumar was not playing. Both were dismissed by Bhuvi in the last match. Avesh Khan gave the first blow to England. Avesh bowled Jos Buttler. Buttler could score 18 runs in nine balls with the help of two fours and a six.
After this Jason Roy shared a 30-run partnership with David Malan for the second wicket. Roy was caught by Umran Malik at the hands of wicketkeeper Pant. Roy could score 27 runs in 26 balls with the help of one four and two sixes. Philippe Salt could not do much and got eight runs clean bowled by Harshal Patel. Malan then shared a partnership of 84 runs in 43 balls with Liam Livingstone.
Malan was dismissed for 77 runs in 39 balls with the help of six fours and five sixes. Ravi Bishnoi sent him to the pavilion in the 17th over of the innings. In the same over, Bishnoi also walked Moin. Moin could not even open the account. Harry Brooke was dismissed for 19 runs off nine balls. Chris Jordan was dismissed after scoring 11 runs in three balls. At the same time, Livingstone remained unbeaten on 42 runs off 29 balls with the help of four sixes.
David Malan:
Chasing a huge target of 216 runs, the Indian team started poorly. Rishabh Pant got out after scoring a run in the second over. He was caught by Reece Topley at the hands of wicketkeeper Jos Buttler. After this, Virat Kohli hit two consecutive boundaries and lost wickets in the process of hitting the third boundary. He was caught by David Willey at the hands of Jason Roy. Kohli could score 11 runs in six balls. It included a four and a six.
Team India lost three wickets for 31 runs. After this, Suryakumar Yadav shared a 119-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer for the fourth wicket. This is Team India’s highest partnership for the fourth wicket in T20. This partnership was broken by Reece Topley. He got Shreyas caught by Jos Buttler. Shreyas could score 28 runs in 23 balls. After this Suryakumar Yadav scored the first century of T20 career. He completed his century in 48 balls.
Suryakumar became the fifth batsman from India to score a century in T20. Before him, Rohit Sharma (four centuries), KL Rahul (two centuries), Suresh Raina (one century) and Deepak Hooda (one century) have scored centuries. Dinesh Karthik and Ravindra Jadeja could not do much. Karthik was dismissed for six and Jadeja scored seven. After this, Suryakumar also lost his wicket and he was dismissed for 117 runs in 55 balls with the help of 14 fours and six sixes. This is India’s second highest individual score in T20. Rohit Sharma scored 118 runs.
With the dismissal of Suryakumar, India’s hopes also ended. Chris Jordan did not allow India to score 21 runs in the last over. Harshal Patel was dismissed for five runs and Ravi Bishnoi scored two runs. Avesh Khan remained unbeaten on one run. Reece Topley took three wickets for England. At the same time, David Willey and Chris Jordan got two wickets each. Moeen Ali took a wicket.
