Demonstrators in Sri Lanka are getting furious. All the protesters have taken over the Rashtrapati Bhavan. All of them say that the time for change we were waiting for has arrived. At the same time, in the midst of all this, the President, hiding from the Army Headquarters, has announced his resignation on July 13. Not only this, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has already resigned in view of the increasing violence.
IMF gave confidence about bailout package:
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said it was hoping for a solution to Sri Lanka’s political turmoil that would allow talks for a bailout package to resume after protests turned violent. “We look forward to a resolution of the current situation that will allow the resumption of our negotiations on an IMF-backed program,” the IMF said in a statement.
Sri Lanka’s army chief made this appeal to the people:
Sri Lanka’s army chief General Shavendra Silva said on Sunday that the current political crisis should be resolved peacefully. He appealed to the people to unite and solve the problem.
America made this appeal to the leaders of Sri Lanka:
The US has asked the leaders of Sri Lanka to take some major steps to achieve economic stability soon. A State Department spokesman said any new government should act swiftly to identify and implement solutions that would achieve long-term economic stability and address the discontent of the Sri Lankan people.
