0 Commonwealth Games: Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra out of CWG due to injury

The Commonwealth Games are going to start from 28th July. Two days before this, India has suffered a big setback. Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has been ruled out of the Commonwealth Games. Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Secretary General Rajeev Mehta confirmed this.

Rajeev Mehta said- I was informed this morning by the Athletics Federation of India that Neeraj is not 100% fit. He has a groin injury and has been asked to take rest for a month after the scan. As a result, he will not participate in the Commonwealth Games.

Won silver medal in World Athletics Championships:

Recently Neeraj gave India a silver medal in the World Athletics Championships (WAC/WAC). He became only the second athlete after Anju Bobby George (2003) to do so. In the final, Neeraj had thrown javelin to a distance of 88.13 meters and won the silver medal.

injury in the final:

However, Neeraj was also injured in the WAC. Neeraj Chopra suffered an injury during the Javelin final at the World Athletics Championships. In the final, Neeraj was also seen wrapping a bandage on his thigh. Now Neeraj will not participate in the Commonwealth Games due to the same injury.

The 24-year-old athlete was to be India’s flag bearer during the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games on Thursday. Rajeev Mehta has said that a decision on the new flag bearer will be taken soon after talking to other IOA office bearers.

Neeraj’s statement on injury:

After winning the silver medal in the World Athletics Championships, Neeraj said – I was feeling uncomfortable in the thigh after the fourth throw. After the fourth throw, I was not able to push as hard as I wanted. This statement of Neeraj had raised the concern of all the countrymen.

Now the responsibility of getting the medal on Rohit Yadav:

Neeraj’s match was to be held on August 5. Now in his absence, India’s hopes are from DP Manu and Rohit Yadav. Both of them will now represent India in the javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games.

India had high hopes from Neeraj:

Competition is less in the Commonwealth and the chances of winning a medal are higher. In such a situation, it was believed that Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal, but India has lost a medal due to his injury.

Neeraj won the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics. He became only the second athlete from India to win gold in the individual category. After this, there were a lot of expectations from Neeraj after winning the medal in World Athletics.

Neeraj won gold in 2018:

Neeraj is also the champion of 2018 Commonwealth Games. He would have defended his gold this year. However, this will no longer be possible. In the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Neeraj won the gold with a throw of 86.47m. He then recorded 85.50m, foul, 84.78m, 86.47m, 83.48m and foul in six attempts in the final. His most successful attempt was the third attempt. That’s why Neeraj won the gold. At the same time, Hamish Peacock of Australia finished second with a throw of 82.59.

Career was in danger due to injury in 2019 too:

In 2019 also Neeraj was seriously injured. Then he had an elbow injury. The injury was so severe that even his career was in danger. However, Neeraj got the operation done. He stayed away from the news and glare for almost a year. Took the phone off. After recovery, Neeraj made a tremendous comeback and won gold at the Tokyo Olympics.
