Yashwant Sinha, the opposition candidate for the post of President, has filed his nomination after reaching the Parliament House. Several top opposition leaders including NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Jairam Ramesh, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, DMK’s A Raja and NC leader Farooq Abdullah were present during Sinha’s filing of nomination papers. Let us tell you that NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu has filed her nomination papers only last week.

Earlier on Sunday, opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha had said next month’s presidential election was more than a personal contest and a step towards countering the authoritarian tendencies of the government. Sinha said he was not in any “religion crisis” for not getting the support of his son and BJP MP Jayant Sinha.
He said, ‘My son will follow his ‘Raj Dharma’ and I will follow my ‘Rashtra Dharma’. “This election is more than just the election of the President of India. This election is a step towards opposing the authoritarian tendencies of the government. This election is a message to the people of India that these policies should be opposed.
Try to make Yashwant Sinha win, don’t be misled: Sharad Pawar
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said the opposition parties will have to do everything possible to ensure the victory of their candidate Yashwant Sinha in the presidential election. He said that if one looks at the presidential election arithmetic, the situation is not as bad as it is being told and the opposition parties will have to make concerted efforts to fight the good fight.
Pawar said, “When we fight elections, we fight to win. When there are two candidates, both cannot win. The situation is different for each candidate. It’s about combat principles. We have selected Yashwant Sinha as our common candidate and it is our responsibility to do everything possible to ensure his victory. Whatever be the outcome, we can talk about it later.
