Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Saturday that 20-25 cities and towns will have 5G service by the end of this year. He also said that with the introduction of 5G service, data prices in India will remain low as compared to other countries of the world. The current cost of data in the country is much lower than the global average.
The Union Minister said that 5G will start from August-September. India is developing 4G and 5G stacks and is poised to cement its position as a trusted source of digital networks for the world. He said in a news channel program that many countries want to give priority to 4G and 5G products and technology being developed by India.
He said that the ministry is working on an important rule to resolve the issue of unwanted calls. Under this, the KYC-identified name of any caller can be known. Once the talks with the industry stakeholders are completed, it will be implemented across the country.
On slow download speeds, he said the average data consumption in India is 18GB per month while the global average is only 11GB per month. Data consumption in India is also very high compared to most developed countries. There is a need for more investment in infrastructure.
Data rates, call drops, call quality require massive investment in infrastructure. On pricing of 5G services, he said that even today data rates in India are around US$ 2, while the global average is US$ 25. He said that the same trend will be there in other areas as well.
Necessary steps need to be taken to fix the responsibility of social media: Ashwini
Railway and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said on Saturday that there is a need to take necessary steps to fix the responsibility of social media platforms. In an interview given to a private channel on Saturday, he said, there is a need to make social media accountable.
He said that important laws have to be brought to stop rumors and unnecessary information on social media. If someone makes a complaint with social media and there is no social media group action, then there should be a group authority to appeal further. Cyber security is being strengthened in the country. Along with this, people should take special care of their password and digital security.
