China Taiwan Conflict: China has stunned US lawmakers under the leadership of US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senator Ed Markey to visit Taiwan. After sending 6 naval ships and 51 fighter aircraft to the Taiwanese border on Friday, it has again sent 21 war planes and 5 naval ships on Saturday.
The Taiwanese Defense Ministry has tracked the new incursion regarding the Chinese army engaged in encircling Taiwan from all sides. The Taiwanese Defense Ministry said they tracked 17 Chinese military aircraft and five ships across the country. Of these, 8 are also jets that crossed the midline over the Taiwan Strait.
The tracked aircraft were four Xi’an JH-7 fighter-bombers, two Sukhoi Su-30 fighters and two Shenyang J-11 jets. J-11 crossed the southern end while the others crossed the midline at the northern end. The ministry said it has deployed its combat air patrol aircraft, naval ships and air defense missile systems to monitor Chinese activities.
China has become an agent of instability: Burns
US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns said that globally China needs to be convinced that it is not an agent of instability. “We do not believe that the peaceful visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan should lead to any bitterness in US-China relations,” he said.
The US ambassador also said that there is concern around the world that China has now become an agent of instability in the Taiwan Strait, which is not in anyone’s interest.
Japanese leaders will go to Taiwan amid tension with China:
After the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, now Japan has also decided to send Furuya Keiji, Chairman of the Parliament’s Advisory Council and Secretary General Kihara Minoru, to Taiwan. Both the leaders will be in Taiwan from 22 to 24 August.
Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry has welcomed the upcoming visit of Japanese politicians. The two leaders will also meet Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wei on military exercises being conducted by China in the region.
