0 Asia Cup: Shaheen Afridi may be ruled out of Asia Cup

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) last week announced the squad for the Asia Cup T20 tournament. Fast bowler Shaheen Afridi was also kept in this team. However, he got injured just before the tournament and doubts remain about his playing. Shaheen suffered a knee injury against Sri Lanka earlier this month. He is still ineligible. At the same time, the Asia Cup is starting from August 27. Pakistan team will start their campaign against India in Dubai on 28 August.

However, Shaheen is going on a tour of the Netherlands with the Pakistan team. Recently, Pakistan captain Babar Azam had said that the team doctor and physio are looking after the fast bowler and the team management will take a final call on whether he will play or not. Now former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has given his opinion on this and has told that Shaheen’s absence against India or in the Asia Cup can create problems for Pakistan.

Butt said that he has been repeatedly appealing to the PCB to rest Shaheen, but no one listens to him. Butt said on his YouTube channel – Pakistan’s bowling attack would not have been spectacular and effective without Shaheen. However, this is a great opportunity for the young fast bowlers. Naseem Shah and Shahnawaz Dahani will get a chance to prove that they too can take the responsibility. We have always talked about taking the burden off Shaheen’s shoulders and appealed not to feed her everywhere, but it did not happen.

Butt said- It happened in every match involving Shaheen that now he is injured. If he does not play the Asia Cup, then it will be a big opportunity for the young fast bowlers of Pakistan. If the young fast bowlers fail to perform, the question will surely arise on the PCB as to why they were not given the first chance. Why keep feeding Shaheen in every match? Why was the extra burden put on them? However, this is a great opportunity for young players.

Butt also compared the situation in Pakistan to that of Jasprit Bumrah of India. In fact, Bumrah will also not be a part of Team India in the Asia Cup due to a back injury. Butt said that Bumrah’s absence will not make much difference to India as the team has been giving opportunities to new fast bowlers in every series, every match. In such a situation, they may not have to face the problem like Pakistan.

Butt said- Indian team is giving chances to new bowlers in every match. It is true that they do not have another bowler like Bumrah. Bumrah is the best bowler in India and the best in the world. It will make a little difference. However, Team India has come out of this situation that all the responsibility will have to be left on Bumrah. In the last few days, many new bowlers have appeared for the Indian team. However, this is not the case with Pakistan.
