Military ties between India and America are getting stronger. This is the reason that now Indian defense officers in the US Defense Headquarters i.e. Pentagon have been provided with the facility of unhindered or unescorted access.
A top official of the US Defense Department said that the Indian Defense Department will now have easy access to the Pentagon. US Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall made the announcement on Indian Independence Day at an event hosted by India’s Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu at India House on Monday. Kendall said such a move is fraught with trust and cooperation. Our relations with India are one of trust and cooperation.
Kendall said that from today the Indian defense team will be able to move without security in the Pentagon. This step has been taken because of our close ties with India and since India is our major defense partner.
I can’t even enter the Pentagon without an escort: Kendall
Kendall said, ‘If you think it’s not a big deal to go to the Pentagon without a security check, let me tell you that I can’t go there without an escort. The Pentagon, the headquarters of the US Department of Defense, is one of the most difficult to get to, as it is one of the world’s most high-security places.
Even US citizens do not have access to the building without a high level security clearance. Kendall worked on India’s issues during the previous Obama administration. He said that even at that time he had a desire to strengthen ties with India in the national security sphere.
Strong security ties with India:
US Defense Officer Kendall also said that with India we conduct more joint military exercises than any other country. We have a close relationship for a long time. We are constantly trying to make it stronger. We are engaged in building a unified military resistance in the region and around the world.
Kendall said defense trade and technology initiatives between the two countries have been going on for years and continue to this day. Recently, ie a year ago, we have started a program of cooperation in making drones. We are involved in technology transfer and have been running many programs for a long time. This cycle will continue.
