From political parties to leaders have raised objections on the poster of the documentary ‘Kali’ being directed by Leena Manimekalai. Reacting to the controversial poster of the film ‘Kali’, Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said that ‘every religion should be respected and the way Goddess Kali is portrayed in the poster is unacceptable’.
On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh and BJP leader Narottam Mishra took strong objection to this and said that ‘the state government can ban Manimekalai’s film.’
What did Shiv Sena say?
Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said that freedom of expression should never be used as a tool to hurt. I am hurt by the poster of the documentary being made on Maa Kali.
BJP advocated legal action:
MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that showing Kali Mata smoking a cigarette is unacceptable. He advocated for a ban on the film and legal action against the filmmaker. Yes, the BJP leader tweeted and said, “It is quite objectionable to show Kali Mata smoking a cigarette in the documentary film ‘Kaali’. I will talk to the police to see if an FIR can be registered and also see if The film may be banned in Madhya Pradesh. If the poster of the film is not removed immediately, strict legal action will be taken.”
Congress also raised objection:
Congress has also come forward to condemn the poster of the movie Kali. Congress spokesperson Gaurav Vallabh said, “We respect all deities of all religions and do not support anything that hurts anyone.”
FIR registered in three states so far:
Meanwhile, Delhi, Bihar and UP police have filed complaints against Leena Manimekalai over the controversial poster of her new documentary ‘Kaali’.
