Newly-elected President Draupadi Murmu will take oath of the country’s highest office on Monday. She will be the 15th in the country and the first Her Majesty to come from the tribal community. Swearing-in ceremony will be held at 10.15 am:
The Union Home Ministry said that the swearing-in ceremony will take place at 10.15 am in the Central Hall of Parliament. Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Ramana will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected President Murmu. After this, he will be given a 21-gun salute.
The President will also address the people present in the Central Hall. The outgoing and newly elected President will reach Parliament before the ceremony. Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Ministers, Governors, Chief Ministers and Ambassadors of various countries, Members of Parliament and prominent military and civil officials will also attend the function.
Will leave for Rashtrapati Bhavan after taking oath:
After the swearing-in ceremony is over in the Central Hall of Parliament, the President will leave for the ‘Rashtrapati Bhavan’. There he will be given the Inter-Service Guard of Honor and will be accorded a courtesy call on the outgoing President. 64-year-old Murmu on Thursday created history by defeating the opposition’s presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha. Murmu secured more than 64 per cent of the valid votes of MPs and MLAs and won the election by a huge margin of votes. Murmu got 6,76,803 votes as against Sinha’s 3,80,177 votes.
