Today elections are being held for 16 Rajya Sabha seats in four states. Amidst complicated maths in Maharashtra, the AIMIM has announced its support for Imran Pratapgarhi, the candidate of the Shiv Sena-led coalition government. Asaduddin Owaisi’s party said it would support Congress candidate Imran Pratapgarhi to defeat the BJP.
AIMIM’s Maharashtra unit president Imtiaz Jaleel has said that his party will vote for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in the state. Two of our MLAs have been asked to vote for Congress candidate Imran Pratapgarhi.
There is an election for six seats in Maharashtra. In terms of numbers, BJP can win only one seat here. However, due to the possibility of split in Mahavikas Aghadi and a large number of independent MLAs, BJP has fielded another candidate here.
On the other hand, NCP and Congress have fielded one each and Shiv Sena has fielded two candidates. In such a situation, the screw is stuck on the sixth seat. Only those who get the support of independent MLAs in this seat will get success.
Ideology will remain separate from Shiv Sena:
Jalil is an MP from Aurangabad, Maharashtra. He announced the party’s decision on Friday morning before voting for the Rajya Sabha elections began. Owaisi’s party has two MLAs in the 288-seat Maharashtra Assembly.
Our ideology will remain separate from Shiv Sena, which is in alliance with Congress and NCP in Aghadi. Referring to Asaduddin Owaisi, he said that our two MLAs will vote for Congress candidate Imran Pratapgarhi.
Support to Muslims on the condition of reservation:
According to Jalil, our party has placed the condition of development of both Dhule and Malegaon assembly seats before the MVA government. It also demanded to appoint minority members in Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) and increase the income of Maharashtra Waqf Board. One condition is to give reservation to Muslims.
