0 Cancer Trial: 18 rectal Cancer Patients were given the same drug for 6 months

Cancer remains a major threat to the world even today. Medical science is doing new miracles every day. Meanwhile, a drug trial has been done, which has got rid of cancer in every patient. 18 patients involved in the initial trial of a drug for the treatment of rectal cancer have got rid of the disease.

According to the New York Times report, in a very small clinical trial, 18 patients took a drug called dostarlimab for about six months and in the end, each of them saw their tumor disappear.

Dosterlimumab is a drug containing molecules manufactured by the laboratory, which acts as a substitute antibody (substitute antibody) in the human body. All 18 rectal cancer patients were given the same drug and as a result of treatment, the cancer was completely eradicated in all patients. Physical tests such as endoscopy, positron emission tomography or PET scans or MRI scans also did not show cancer.

This happened for the first time in history: Dr. Louis

Dr. Luis A. Diaz J, of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, said it was “the first time in the history of cancer”. Dr Diaz is one of the study authors. During the trial, it is revealed that the patients took the drug every three weeks for six months. Notably, all patients were in similar stages of their cancer. It was in his rectum, but had not spread to other parts of the body.

According to the New York Times, patients in clinical trials so far have had to undergo chemotherapy, radiation and invasive surgery… in previous treatments to eradicate their cancer, which can result in bowel, urinary and even sexual dysfunction. 18 patients went for the test hoping to undergo these as the next stage. However, no further treatment was needed for him.

No Chemotherapy, No Radiation

Cancer patients usually undergo difficult treatments, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. In the case of rectal cancer, some patients also require a colostomy bag. Patients sometimes develop permanent problems like bowel, urinary defects and even sexual dysfunction.

Complete eradication of cancer in all patients is unbelievable: Dr Allen

The result of this test has created panic in the medical world. Talking to the media, Dr. Alan P. Venuk, who works as a colorectal cancer specialist at the University of California, said that complete eradication of cancer in all patients is ‘unbelievable’.

He described this research as the first research in the world, where all the patients were cured. He also said this was particularly impressive because not all patients suffered significant complications during the trial drug. The special thing is that no side effects have been seen with this medicine.

‘There were tears of happiness in the eyes of the patients’-

Dr. Andrea Cersek, an oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and co-author of the research paper, spoke of the moment patients learned they were cancer-free. He told the New York Times that “they all had tears of joy in their eyes.”

Now, cancer researchers reviewing the drug tell the media that the treatment looks promising, but a large-scale trial is needed to see if it will work for more patients and whether the cancer is really gone. .

Dosterlimumab drug contains a special type of protein:

Dosterlimab is a monoclonal drug, which acts as an antibody in the human body. The monoclonal antibody works together with a special protein called PD-1 on the surface of cancer cells. It is effective in helping the immune system identify and destroy cancer cells.

Test done like this:

During the trial, patients were given doses of it every three weeks for six months. None of the patients included in the trial had undergone chemoradiotherapy or surgery. During this, the cancer did not spread from the rectum to other parts of the body, nor did the health of any patient deteriorate.

so is the price of medicine:

The cost of a 500mg dose of dosterlimumab in the US is approximately 8 lakh rupees ($11,000). Whereas, in the UK it is available for £5,887 per dose.
