0 Supreme Court: Approval of CPI(M)’s petition against encroachment in Shaheen Bagh

Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has allowed the hearing of a petition filed by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) seeking a stay on the ongoing encroachment proceedings at Shaheen Bagh in South Delhi. The court will hear this petition from 2 pm on Monday.

Earlier, a team of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) tried to demolish illegal constructions at Shaheen Bagh through bulldozers. However, this action had to be stopped following protests by the local people.

Advocate Biju P Raman, appearing for CPI(M), in his petition has said that, as alleged, they are living here illegally, but it is false.

He is neither living illegally nor has there been any kind of encroachment. He said the authorities have not even issued him a notice before demolishing his house. Therefore this action is completely unconstitutional.

Campaign will run till May 13:

According to the information, this campaign, which started from May 4, will continue till May 13. In fact, the Mayor of Southern Corporation Mukesh Suryan told that the campaign phase against encroachment has started after Eid.

In this regard, force was sought by writing a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Police of South and South East districts.

On Wednesday, the campaign against encroachment was carried out as usual in the Karni Shooting Range area. The encroachments spread on the roads were cleared with the help of bulldozers.

Eminent personalities demanded a ban on the action:

About 35 eminent personalities of the capital have written a letter to the Delhi government and municipal corporations against the anti-encroachment drive, demanding a ban on it immediately.

These include economist Jayanti Ghosh, Malini Bhattacharya, member of the All India Democratic Women’s Association, Mariam Dhawale, social activist Anjali Bhardwaj and Kavita Krishnan, a member of the All India Progressive Women’s Association.
