0 Gyanvapi mosque: Ban on Varanasi court proceedings in Gyanvapi case, now hearing in Supreme Court tomorrow

The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned the hearing till Friday regarding the famous Gyanvapi Mosque in Banaras. With this, the top court has directed the lower court of Varanasi not to hear or issue any order in this matter till then.

The Supreme Court has said that it will hear the Gyanvapi case tomorrow at 3 pm. The Supreme Court said that till then the civil court of Varanasi should not pass any order in this matter. Earlier, Hindu side’s lawyer Vishnushankar Jain said that senior advocate Harishankar Jain is unwell, so the Gyanvapi case should be heard tomorrow.

On this, lawyer Huzefa Ahmadi, appearing for the Muslim side, said that as the matter is urgent, it should be heard today. Ahmadi said several applications have been filed across the country to seal various mosques. The hearing in the Gyanvapi case is going on in Varanasi and an application has been filed to demolish a wall around Vazukhana. Ahmadi said he could not oppose adjournment of the hearing on the ground that a lawyer was ill, but an undertaking should be given that Hindu devotees would not proceed with the civil court proceedings.

On this, advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain said that he is assuring the bench that the Hindu parties will not proceed with the hearing in the civil court of Varanasi. After this, a bench of Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice Surya Kant and Justice PS Narasimha took Jain’s statement on record and while passing the order, asked the civil court not to hear the matter further till Friday.
