0 Chinese trainers left Karachi’s Confucius Institute

China has recalled instructors who taught Mandarin at the Confucius Institute of Karachi University in Pakistan. China has taken this step weeks after the Karachi blast. Three Chinese civilians were killed in a blast at Karachi University.

In 2013, the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi was established jointly with the Sichuan Normal University of China. The purpose of the institute is to teach Mandarin, the main language of China, and to promote people-to-people contact and exchange between China and Pakistan.

The repatriation of Chinese instructors comes in the wake of the April 26 suicide attack targeting Chinese civilians at the University of Karachi outside the Confucius Institute. Four people, including three Chinese nationals, were killed in the suicide attack.

Instructors of all institutes called back-

According to Geo News, China has not only recalled the Karachi University but also the instructors of various Confucius Institutes of Pakistan. The director of the department, Dr. Naseeruddin, said the institute would not be closed, adding that Pakistani teachers were being asked to help teach Mandarin.

China’s confidence in Pakistan’s security has been shaken-

After an attack on a minibus in Karachi last month, China’s confidence in Pakistan’s ability to protect Chinese workers in the country has been seriously undermined. Mushahid Hussain, chairman of the Defense Committee of the Pakistani Senate, told Dawn that Chinese confidence in Pakistan’s security system in its ability to protect its citizens and their projects has been seriously undermined.

This has caused serious concern and outrage in China. Pakistan’s promises of providing security are far from the ground reality. If such attacks continue, not only Chinese but also other foreign investors will be forced to review their role in Pakistan.
