In the African country of Uganda, there has been a ruckus after the killing of two people by UN peacekeeping forces on Sunday. The protesters have taken to the street and are demanding justice.
At the same time, after getting information about the incident, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed displeasure over the incident. He said such violence is shameful. Strictest action will be taken against the accused. It is being told that the accused carried out this incident while returning home from leave.
UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said in a statement that the Secretary-General is deeply saddened and disappointed by the casualties in the incident. Antonio Guterres has expressed his deepest condolences to the affected families, the people of the country and the Government of Uganda and also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
Reason for firing not yet known: Bintou Keita
Bintou Keita, the UN Special Representative and the head of the UN Stability Mission in Congo (MONUSCO), said that under what circumstances the peacekeepers opened fire at the border post, there is no concrete information about them yet.
He said that this serious incident has sent a wrong message to the world. Bintou Keita said that we strongly condemn this incident and express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased who lost their lives.
