Pakistan is scared of the weapons of the Indian Army and is blaming India unnecessarily. Pakistan on Friday alleged that India’s “autocratic arms mobilization” was creating imbalance in the region, threatening peace and stability.
Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmed said this in response to a question during the weekly press conference, which was asked about the deployment of the S-400 Russian missile defense system by the Indian Air Force at Adampur and Halwara Air Force Station in Punjab. , which is about 90-100 kilometers from the Pakistan border.
“The arms race has been a cause of concern for Pakistan for a long time and in the last few years, India’s autocratic arms mobilization has created an imbalance in our region which has increased further,” the spokesperson alleged. It is a threat to regional peace and stability.” He said that Pakistan has shared those concerns with friends, members of the international community and has also raised these issues in relevant forums in the United Nations.
“About 70 per cent of the military capability that India has achieved has actually been directed or deployed against Pakistan, so obviously we are very concerned about all the relevant incidents,” he said.
Responding to a question about India’s reaction to the proposed confidence building measures, he said relations with India have really deteriorated at this point of time and increased due to India’s actions. We have not seen any positive signs from across the border with regard to this desire to improve relations, especially after August 5, 2019. Responding to another question about trade ties with India or any ongoing discussions to resume suspended trade, he immediately said no, no such discussions are taking place.
Significantly, relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated after the Indian government in August 2019 bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories and abrogated provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution that gave special status to the state. India’s decision drew strong backlash from Pakistan, following which diplomatic relations fell apart and the Indian envoy was expelled.
India has repeatedly told Pakistan that Jammu and Kashmir was, is and will remain an integral part of the country. India has said that it wants normal neighborly relations with Pakistan in an environment free from terror, hostility and violence. On Pakistan’s relations with the US, the Foreign Office spokesperson said that both the countries are working to improve bilateral ties after recent tensions due to allegations by former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Imran Khan had alleged that Washington was behind the toppling of his government.
Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar also told during the press conference that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will visit Qatar next week, while Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is on a visit to four European countries – Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. He said that these visits demonstrate Pakistan’s continued deep engagement and diplomacy.
