World football governing body FIFA has suspended the Football Federation of India (AIFF) with immediate effect due to third party interference. This decision has been taken due to serious violation of FIFA rules.
On the other hand, the Durand Cup is going to start in Kolkata from Tuesday, 16 August. Bangalore FC will take on Jamshedpur FC on the second day. 11 Indian Super League (ISL) clubs will participate in the tournament.
According to the information, earlier this month, FIFA, the world football governing body, had threatened to suspend the Football Federation of India (AIFF) due to third party interference.
Along with this, FIFA also threatened to take away its rights to host the Women’s Under-17 World Cup to be held in October. The warning came just days after the Supreme Court directed the AIFF to hold elections. However, the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has started the election process. Elections are to be held on August 28.
Chhetri had said – Ignore FIFA’s threat:
Here, Indian football captain and veteran striker Sunil Chhetri on Sunday told his fellow players that there is no need to heed FIFA’s threats to suspend or ban Indian football. He told the players that you should focus on performing at your best on the field.
Under-17 Women’s Football World Cup was to start from October 11:
The Under-17 Women’s Football World Cup was proposed to be held from October 11 to 30 in Bhubaneswar, Goa and Mumbai. For its successful hosting, the Union Cabinet had already given its approval by signing the Accountability Letter. However, now as a result of the ban on FIFA, the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held from 11-30 October will be postponed.
FIFA said the future of the tournament would be decided in due course and if needed the matter could be referred to the Bureau of Councils. FIFA has clearly said that now this event cannot be held in India according to its scheduled time. FIFA said that the suspension will be lifted only if the Football Federation of India works together.
