For a long time, China’s effort has been to emerge as a major defense exporting country among India’s neighboring countries. For this it is also trying to tie the means of supply of arms to military dependence (instrumentum regni), but its production is of very low quality.
A media report said that China’s plan is weakening due to the low quality of Chinese defense supplies by Western standards. Recently, Bangladesh army expressed displeasure over the supply of tanks, ammunition by the Northern Industries Corporation of China (Norinco) and rejected it as untestable.
Bangladesh appears to be dissatisfied with the quality of military supplies received from China. Indeed, Bangladesh’s economic condition has forced it to turn to the Chinese, who promised supplies much cheaper than in the West. As part of this, Dhaka took Norinko-made (mostly copied) light weapons, artillery and armored vehicles.
Dissatisfaction with many Chinese devices:
The Bangladesh government purchased a total of $3 billion worth of defense equipment from China between 2011 and 2020 for armored units. In 2011 it bought the Chinese MBT-2000 tank while it recently modified the Type 69 fleet. He replaced other weapons with many Chinese-made devices. But the army is dissatisfied with them. It also expressed dissatisfaction with the radar provided by China Shipbuilding and Offshore International.
transparency-lack of accountability:
Earlier, a 2021 RAND Corporation (US-based thinktank) study had clearly pointed to a shortfall in Chinese defense contracts, saying there is a lack of transparency and accountability.
