West Indies vs India (WIvIND): The 1st T20 of India tour of West Indies will be played between WI vs IND, the match will start at 08:00 PM IST on 29 July 2022 at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad and Tobago
Team winner Prediction:
Key Points:
- India have a better-balanced side between the two, at least on paper
- West Indies are a little too over-reliant on Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer to deal the bulk of the damage in the middle overs
- India are coming off some superb wins across the formats and will be brimming with confidence coming into this match
WI vs IND Analysis:
India hammered West Indies 3-0 in the three-match ODI series that concluded very recently. Not many would have expected any other result given the gulf that was there between the two sides at the beginning of the series. It is, however, going to be pretty different when the two teams take on each other in the next leg of the tour. West Indies and India are set to lock horns in the T20I series that is to start with the first match being played on 29th July 2022 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba.

Date: 29 July, 2022
Time: 08:00 PM (IST)
Venue: Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad and Tobago

TV: DD Sports (India)
Pitch and Weather Conditions:
The stadium is yet to host an international match but enough CPL games have been played at the ground. The average first innings score is 141. So we could be in for a pitch on the slower side. June to December is generally the rainy season in Trinidad and Tobago and that could mean chances of rain showers.
Team Preview:
West Indies (WI):
West Indies and T20s – this is some love affair. This team from Caribbean Islands has always punched above their weight in the shortest format of their game and rightly so, given the style they play the game with. This is the format they love playing the most and even though they will be without some of the key names, they would be fancying their chances.
They will be boosted by the return of Shimron Hetmyer, who has looked in immaculate form ever since the beginning of this year’s IPL. Apart from him, a lot will rely on Nicholas Pooran, who too has stepped up his game in recent times. Having said that, with Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard no longer there, there isn’t a lot of experience available in West Indies’ camp.
On the bowling front as well, West Indies appear to be lacking experience and that could come back to bite them in high-pressure situations. All in all, West Indies have the explosiveness needed for the format, but they will need to play out of their skins to match this Indian unit. If they can do that, getting past them could prove to be a steep climb.
Likely XI: Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Nicholas Pooran (c), Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, Odean Smith, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd, Obed McCoy and Hayden Walsh jnr/Alzarri Joseph

India (IND):
The T20 World Cup in Australia is not too far away and one would believe that India would now be done with their experiments. This is a long series wherein they can try-out a few combinations but we expect India to stick to a settled core, at least to begin with. India have changed their core strategy and have more recently been more aggressive right from the outset.
With the likes of Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Rishabh Pant back into the team, India certainly appears to be a lot stronger outfit. The form of and contributions by Virat Kohli will be under the scrutiny and that is arguably one of the biggest reasons this series will be followed by the fans.
On the bowling front, India look well-settled and should be raring to go. Thanks to the Indian Premier League, they have battle-hardened bowlers already, who all might not even have played enough international fixtures. That said, it would certainly be a big test for the bowling unit against a side known to tonk it hard.
All in all, India are coming into this match and the series on the back of some remarkable results and would want to continue posting such results. They have a decent side on paper and if they are able to play to their potential, getting past them could prove to be a challenging task.
Likely XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Rishabh Pant, Deepak Hooda/Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, R Ashwin/Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh
