After Corona, now Indian scientists have got great success regarding Monkeypox. A team of Pune-based National Institute of Virology (NIV) has isolated the monkeypox virus from samples taken from infected patients for examination.
A team of scientists was formed to extract the live virus, which from July 14 was engaged day and night in the lab to find the virus. 11 days later, the NIV officially confirmed this, saying that the team has succeeded in isolating the monkeypox virus from a patient’s sample.
This means that now with the help of this virus, scientists will soon be able to find a test kit to identify the infection. Along with this, by using live virus in Syrian rats, it will also be able to extract important information about its severity and treatment. Apart from this, anti-monkeypox vaccines can also be discovered.
Great achievement for the country:
Scientists called it a historic achievement for India. Dr. Pragya Yadav, Senior Scientist of NIV said, this is a great success. When the corona epidemic started in the year 2020, during that time we first isolated the corona virus. After that test kits were made and Covaxin vaccine was also discovered. This time the monkeypox has been isolated. Further studies will start soon regarding its test kit, treatment and vaccine etc.
Will make from one virus and many viruses:
NIV’s Senior Scientist Dr. Pragya Yadav said, ‘After isolating the monkeypox virus, now other copies of it are also being prepared. This work is going on in Pune’s BSL-3 level lab. Each of these viruses will be handed over for a separate study.
Tender issued for making vaccine, test kit:
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) also issued a tender late on Wednesday evening for making test kits and vaccines. According to ICMR, in collaboration with private companies, they will soon prepare an anti-monkeypox vaccine and its test kit. ICMR will also get royalty on each test kit or dose of vaccine. Currently, the Covaxin vaccine attracts a royalty of five per cent. There is no vaccine for monkeypox yet. Nor is there any test kit available to identify it.
The crisis can last for several months:
It is difficult to get rid of monkeypox spread in many countries quickly. Experts have feared, the crisis of this infection can last for several months. At present, cases are doubling after 15 days. Scientists say that we have to pay immediate attention to its prevention.
- So the situation will be worrying: Professor Anne Rimoin of the University of California said, if taking preventive measures is not taken seriously, then the situation can become more worrying.
- Virus can be transmitted for six months: Professor Jimmy Whitworth of the London School of Hygiene has expressed hope, cases of monkeypox can be found for four to six months.
