The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed 14,000 cases of monkeypox worldwide. At the same time, five people have died in Africa due to monkeypox. This was informed by WHO Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Wednesday.
The WHO said, however, that all deaths occurred in Africa and this is the region where monkeypox outbreaks have historically been found. On Thursday, the WHO will convene a second meeting of a committee that will decide whether the outbreak is a matter of international concern (PHEIC).
Fast spreading monkeypox:
On July 15, WHO confirmed 11634 cases of monkeypox infection worldwide. On Thursday, this figure has reached 14 thousand. In this way, about two and a half thousand cases of infection have been reported in four days.
In fact, so far, the highest number of cases of monkeypox infection have been reported in America, Canada. At the same time, monkeypox infection has been reported in more than 75 countries of the world so far.
