The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India has entered the mid-size SUV segment with its new car Grand Vitara. The pre-bookings for the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara have started from Rs 11,000 and the company is expected to replace the S-Cross in the lineup. The prices of the Grand Vitara are expected to be revealed in August.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 2022 will be the first car in its segment to come with a self-charging electric hybrid variant. Maruti Suzuki will share the electric hybrid technology cleaner powertrain with Toyota, which had earlier introduced the Urban Cruiser Hyder SUV with similar technology. This car will compete with SUVs like Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, MG Aster, Tata Harrier in its segment in the Indian market.

Based on Global C Platform:
The new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV shares most of its components with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which was recently introduced. Both the SUVs are based on Suzuki’s Global C platform which is also being used in Maruti Suzuki Brezza and S-Cross. Engine, gearbox and other components will also be shared between the two SUVs. This helps in saving on the cost of research and development.

Maruti Suzuki will offer the Grand Vitara in two engine options. There is a 1.5-litre mild hybrid engine that has been seen in other Maruti Suzuki cars. While the other is a new 1.5-litre strong hybrid engine developed in collaboration with Toyota. The mild hybrid engine generates 100 PS of power and 135 Nm of torque. It will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission. It has a claimed mileage of 21.11 kmpl. The robust hybrid engine produces 115 PS of maximum power and will be mated to only one e-CVT automatic transmission. Maruti Suzuki claims that it will give the highest mileage of 27.97 kmpl in its segment.
Allgrip all-wheel-drive technology:
The new Vitara will be available with Suzuki’s All-Grip AWD (AWD) system, which will automatically transmit torque to the rear wheels when slip is detected. Also, the AWD option makes it the only other SUV in the mid-size segment apart from the Toyota Hyrider to get the AWD feature. The all-grip system has four modes: Auto, Snow, Sport and Lock. Lock mode keeps the front and rear axles engaged at all times.

Talking about the interiors of the SUV, it has been made in a dual-tone theme of black and brown. The seats have been designed in faux black leather with champagne gold accents in the Strong Hybrid variant, while the Smart Hybrid variant will get a silver accent. The Grand Vitara is the first vehicle from Maruti Suzuki to be offered with a panoramic sunroof. It also comes with a heads-up display, wireless charger, a digital instrument cluster, 360-degree parking camera and connected car technology. Other features include ambient lighting, front ventilated seats, keyless entry, rear AC vents, a push button to start/stop the engine and USB port. There is also a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Maruti Suzuki has enhanced its safety features further with the recently launched Brezza. The carmaker has implemented this in the new Grand Vitara.
