Tamar Jacobsohn, lead researcher in the Contraceptive Development Program at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, said that “male contraceptive options are currently limited to vasectomy and condoms, and are thus compared to female alternatives.” Very limited.”

During the study, 96 healthy male participants were included in the clinical trial conducted in two phases. In each trial, the men were asked to take two or four tablets of the active drug or a placebo as desired, daily for 28 days.
After seven days of taking the active drug, testosterone levels in these men were found to be below normal, while in men taking the placebo, testosterone levels remained within the normal range.
The study found that 75 percent of men taking the active drug said they were willing to use it in the future, compared to 46.4 percent who were willing to take a placebo. Men who took the four-pill daily dose (400 mg) had lower testosterone levels than those who took the two-pill (200-mg).
However, there was no significant difference between the groups taking the active drug and those taking the placebo in terms of satisfaction with the drug or future use or recommending it to others.
Jacobsohn said that “men’s positive experiences in clinical trials and high rates of acceptability for the male contraceptive pill will serve to encourage the general public to see birth control potentially become more widely available by men in the coming decades.”
