In the first match of the two-match T20 series between India and Ireland, Team India won by seven wickets. Through this match, India’s stormy bowler Umran Malik also made his international debut. However, this match was nothing special for him.
Umran bowled just one over and conceded 14 runs without taking any wicket. Ireland’s batsmen hit two fours and a six on his ball. After that he did not get the next over. Captain Hardik Pandya has defended Umran for proving to be expensive.
Hardik said- When you play for India for the first time, there is pressure. In the journey of Umran till playing in international cricket, it is necessary to give him time. Whether it was a good day or a bad day for him, all these things are unnecessary. For Umran, playing for India is a big thing in itself. I am very happy for them. I don’t care what the result is.
After the first T20 match, Hardik said that he feels that Umran Malik should bowl with the old ball. He said- Umran has been fantastic for his franchise (Sunrisers Hyderabad). However, it seemed to me that he would have been more comfortable with the old ball.
Hardik said- I also talked to Umran about this. Ireland batted brilliantly and so I had to bowl to my main bowlers. Perhaps in the next match, Umran will get a chance to bowl all over his quota. It is clear from Hardik’s statement that he will get a chance in the next match as well.
Hardik’s first match as India’s captain was against Ireland. He also took a wicket and scored 24 runs in 12 balls to make the moment more memorable. Hardik said after the match that it is great to start the series with a win. It is very important for us as a team to start with a win. I’m quite happy with it. The second and final T20 match between India and Ireland will be played in Dublin on 28 June.
