India has won its first medal in the senior category after 17 years at the Asian Track Cycling Championships. India won one silver and six bronze in the junior and senior categories on the first day of the championship, which began on Saturday at the IG Stadium Velodrome. Korea dominated with five gold medals.
Team Pursuit got the first medal in the senior category:
In the senior category of Asian cycling, Indian women last won a medal in 2005. Meenakshi, Monika Jat, Rajye Devi, Chhayanika Gogoi clocked 4:44.69sec to win bronze, beating Uzbekistan in the four kilometer team pursuit on Saturday. Got the same medal after 17 years in the senior category. Korea won gold and Kazakhstan won silver.
In the women’s team sprint, the team of Trisha Paul, Sasikala Agashe and Mayuri Lute won the bronze with a timing of 50.43 seconds. Team member Mayuri said after winning the medal that she had been training outside for a long time and the rest of the team were here, but her good form paid off. After a bad time in the heats, the revamped strategy worked for the final.
Para rider Jyoti won gold:
Earlier, the quartet of Pooja, Himanshi, Reet Kapoor and Jasmeek won the silver for India in the junior category’s 4-km team Pursuit. Korea won the gold. Among boys, Neeraj, Birjeet, Ashirwad, Gurnoor won bronze in the same event. India’s Jyoti Gaderia won the gold in Para Cycling’s C-1 C-5 500m time trial with a timing of 58.28 seconds.
