0 Supreme Court: Petition against removal of Article 370 and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir, may be heard in July

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the removal of Article 370 from Kashmir and bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. The petition is likely to come up for hearing in July.

In the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice said, he will try to list the matter in July for hearing the petition. Earlier, senior advocates Shekhar Naphde and P Chidambaram had sought an early hearing citing delimitation of assembly seats.

Bench of five judges will hear:

The Chief Justice said, the petition challenging the decision of the Center on Article 370 is a matter of a five-judge bench. For this a bench will have to be constituted, he said.

In such a situation, the hearing in this case can be done in July after the summer vacation. In fact, in 2019, the matter was referred by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi to NV Ramanna, the chairman of the Constitutional Bench.
