A split has started in the restive European countries over Russian gas. Germany, which imports nearly half of its gas needs from Russia, has said it may open a special account with Russia’s Gazprom Bank.

By depositing Euros or Dollars in this account, it can be converted into Russian currency Ruble. According to Germany, in this way the sanctions of the European Union will also be maintained and payment of gas price in rubles will also be possible.

Italy’s denial:

However, Italy, the second largest importer of Russian natural gas, has ruled out opening a special account. Italy has said that it will buy gas from Russia under the old system.

Putin wants to link ruble with gold:

Russian President Putin is considering linking gold with gold to strengthen the country’s currency, the ruble and give it international recognition.

On Friday, he discussed this with the country’s economists. Due to sanctions from the US and other Western countries, it is now necessary to strengthen the ruble and form the basis of trade. That’s why Putin wants to link it to gold reserves.

Stopped gas supply to Poland and Bulgaria:

On Wednesday, Russia suspended gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria for non-payment of gas price in rubles. Russia has attributed this to the non-payment of gas price by both the countries in Russian currency ruble.

Russia has announced to take the price of its gas and oil in rubles from non-friendly countries. Poland and Bulgaria have accused the Russian energy agency Gazprom of breaching the agreement.

Russia using gas supply as economic weapon-

Be aware that Poland and Bulgaria are supporting Ukraine in the Russo-Ukraine war and are also supplying it with weapons. At the same time, he has supported the sanctions imposed on Russia.
