After a long wait of six years, Sri Lanka finally got a win against Australia in the Test. He defeated the Kangaroo team by an innings and 39 runs in the second match of the two-Test series. On the fourth day (11 July) of the match at Galle Stadium, Sri Lankan bowlers bundled out Australia for 151 in the second innings. Australia won the first test by 10 wickets. Thus the series ended in a 1-1 draw.
Sri Lanka has won the Test against Australia for the fifth time. He got his last win in 2016. Then they defeated Sri Lanka by 163 runs in Colombo. The Lankan team won all three matches of that series. Prior to that, he had got the only win against Australia in 1999.
Sri Lanka have won all the five matches so far at their home ground. He defeated Australia by an innings margin for the first time. Earlier thrice it was defeated by the difference of runs and once.
Sri Lanka took a lead of 190 runs:
In the match, Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. He scored 364 runs in the first innings. Steve Smith scored an unbeaten 145 and Marnash Labuschagne scored 104. After this Sri Lanka scored 554 runs in their first innings.
Dinesh Chandimal scored 206 not out, Dimuth Karunaratne scored 86, Kusal Mendis 85, Kamindu Mendis scored 61 and Angelo Mathews scored 52 runs. Sri Lanka got a lead of 190 runs. The Australian team was reduced to 151 runs in the second innings. Thus Sri Lanka won by an innings and 39 runs.
Chandimal leaves Sangakkara behind:
Chandimal is the first Sri Lankan batsman to score a double century against Australia. He left Kumar Sangakkara behind. Sangakkara was the Sri Lankan batsman to score the highest score against Australia. He scored 192 runs in Hobart in 2007. Kusal Mendis scored 176 in Pallekele in 2016 and Arvind de Silva scored 167 in Brisbane in 1989.
Jayasuriya made a record:
Sri Lanka got a new star spinner from this match. He gave Prabhat Jayasuriya a chance to play in this match. This was Prabhat’s first Test match. He took six wickets each in both the innings. Thus completed the 10 wicket hall in his very first match. He became the highest wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in the debut match. He broke Praveen Jayavikrama’s record. Praveen took six and five wickets against Bangladesh at Pallekele in 2021. In this way he had a total of 11 wickets in the match. Prabhat left them behind by taking 12 wickets.
Australian batsman fails in second innings:
Marnash Labuschagne scored the highest 32 runs in the second innings for Australia. Usman Khawaja got out for 29, David Warner 24 and Cameron Green scored 23 runs. Alex Carey and captain Pat Cummins contributed 16-16 runs. Star batsman Steve Smith, who scored a century in the first innings, could not even open the account in the second innings. Travis Head returned to the pavilion after scoring five runs. Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Swepson could not open the account. Nathan Lyon scored five runs.
