0 Presidential Election: Draupadi Murmu can get 61% votes

NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu’s victory is almost certain. With the announcement of support from opposition parties like BJD, YSR Congress, BSP, TDP, JDS, Shiromani Akali Dal, Shiv Sena and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, it is believed that they can get 61 per cent votes.

In such a situation, the hope of getting the country’s first tribal woman president is strong. The NDA candidate has over 6.67 lakh votes out of a total of 10,86,431 votes. Of these, 3.08 lakh votes are from the ruling BJP and its allies.

The BJD has around 32,000 votes, which is around 2.9 per cent of the total votes. The ruling BJD has 114 MLAs in the 147-member Odisha assembly, while the BJP has 22. The BJD has 12 members in the Lok Sabha and 9 in the Rajya Sabha. Murmu is also getting support from AIADMK (17,200 votes), YSR Congress Party (around 44,000 votes), Telugu Desam Party (around 6,500 votes), Shiv Sena (25,000 votes) and JDS (around 5,600 votes). The strength of the BJP in the Upper House has gone up to 92 after the results of the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections. It has 301 members in the Lok Sabha.

person born after independence will become president for the first time:

If elected President, Murmu will be the first post-independence leader to reach the top post.

MPs will get green color, MLAs will get pink ballot papers:

In the presidential election to be held on July 18, members of parliament and state legislatures will get ballot papers of different colours. MPs will get green color ballot papers while MLAs will get pink color ballot papers. The value of an MLA’s vote depends on the population of that state. The value of each MLA’s vote is 208 in Uttar Pradesh, 176 for Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu, 175 for Maharashtra, seven for Sikkim, nine for Nagaland and eight for Mizoram.

Due to non-existence of Legislative Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir, this time the value of votes of MPs has come down from 708 to 700. In such a situation, having different colored ballot papers will help the Returning Officer in counting. Ballot papers are printed with two columns. The first column contains the names of the candidates and the second column is for the candidates to mark the preference by the elector. Draupadi Murmu from the ruling NDA and Yashwant Sinha from the opposition are the candidates for the presidential election.

The electoral college, which elects the President through the system of proportional representation, consists of elected MPs and members of the State Legislative Assembly. Nominated MPs, MLAs and members of the Legislative Council are not entitled to vote in this election.

Voting in the Presidential elections is held in the Parliament House and in the Legislative Assemblies of the states. Counting of votes takes place in the Parliament House. This time the counting of votes will take place on July 21.
